Flying Bull

Year 6

Christmas Party with a twist

Those in Y6 at home isolating have been celebrating Christmas along with the rest of The Flying Bull Academy via a virtual Christmas party. Adults and children joined together for an afternoon of fun playing games together and also with their friends in school. We ran around our houses, got dressed in more layers than you need too, play musical statues and quiz games. It was great to see everyone so happy and safe.

Children have been accessing their home learning too, with children using a new platform to access through as well as the website and they have done so well.

In a time when there is so much uncertainty, it has been fantastic to see our children so resilient and determined to learn and connect together.

Have a very merry Christmas.

Welcome to Christmas Week

I know this is not how we wanted to celebrate Christmas week but there is still lots of learning to be had this week. We are following the learning that is happening in school as much as possible. We are trialing a new way of home learning with Year 6 as they are confident in using our in school system See-saw. All children will be emailed their login and instructions on how to download and access the learning. using this system children do not need pen or paper they can do their learning straight on the app. It is compatible with mobiles, tablets and laptops with the app and website free to access.

Learning will still be posted here for children to access as well with completed work either being loaded to our padlet page or being emailed to the year6 account. Our isolating staff are eager to see what you have been getting up too.

Home Learning

Design and Technology - As we cannot make our Christmas toys as planned, you have been set the challenge of designing and making your own Christmas toy using recycled materials. You need to follow the same process we would in school: investigate what you could make; design it and consider what materials and skills you will need; make a prototype to test any problems that may arise and then make a final version. Pictures of the process can be uploaded to padlet or added to seesaw or be sent to

Maths - This week we would have been revising areas of the curriculum already covered and practising our recall of number facts. Attached our a variety of Christmas theme activities where the children can choose the level of activity they wish to work at.

Reading - the theme for this week is Christmas so there are three different texts for you to read and then answer the questions. On seesaw I have recorded the rest of our class book George for you to listen too and then quiz on the book.

In addition, one of our reading texts this week is A Christmas Carol so if you enjoy that text why not find another version to watch such as A Muppets Christmas Carol (it's a classic).

Respecting Others Beliefs (ROB) - There are two ROB lessons for this week, one focusing on the Islamic faith and their key beliefs and another focusing on interpretation of the Christmas story. Record answers and send to padlet, year 6 email or add them on seesaw.

Spelling - This week our aim is to practice the statutory words so these are included along with suggestions for ways to practice including a word search, crossword and squiggle.

Websites such as ttrockstars, accelerated reader, get epic are all still there as additional learning resources.

Christmas Fun

In addition to home learning, we have also got some festive fun for your. As a school we have purchased a link for you to be able to watch The Kings Theatre pantomime this year. The link will be available from Monday 14th December.

Finally, on Thursday afternoon at 1:30, a google hangout link will be sent via email for the children so that we can spend some time together and maybe attempt to play some games virtually (we can try).

As always, the Year 6 staff are here to support you in anyway we can, whether it be:

via email (

padlet -

phone - we will be calling next week to wish everyone a Merry Christmas

or through seesaw once you have got set up.

Please stay safe, follow the guidance and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Miss Carter, Mrs Stapenhill, Mrs Whitehouse, Mrs Lammas, Mrs Robinson and Mrs Roberts.
