Proud to be Pompey Day!

Today we celebrated Proud to be Pompey Day!

Today we have been celebrating the many reasons why we love Pompey! The children came to school dressed in something associated with Portsmouth- whether that be a sailor, Pompey footballer or even in their 'best blue'. We were very lucky to welcome lots of visitors to speak to the children about their different roles in our community. Some children went exploring different parts of the city too. Have a look at what we have been up to.

Early Years

In Reception the children enjoyed walking to the local library to explore Portsmouth as readers! The children loved exploring North End library and choosing their very own book. We hope to do this each half term!

Key Stage 1

Wow! What a wonderful, action-packed day we've had in KS1!

We had some very special visitors this morning. Ross from the Ashley Simpson Sailing Centre in Portsmouth spoke to the children about sailing and the different types of boats. We loved the flying boats! We also met Justine and Steve from the Royal Navy, who talked to us about their jobs. We asked lots of questions! We've also been doing some amazing sea-themed art and science investigations linked to the sea and sailing.

We've had a lovely time celebrating our fabulous city of Portsmouth today! We certainly are 'Proud to Be Pompey'!

Lower Key Stage 2

Years 3 and 4 have been exploring Portsmouth as athletes. We met the legend Sir Alan Knight MBE and interviewed him about his time as a goalkeeper for Portsmouth FC. He gave us top tips for goalkeeping and scoring goals, and then we put our new skills to the test. Sir Alan said we were magnificent! We also had taster sessions in athletics, kickboxing, seated volleyball and hockey. What a day!

Upper Key Stage 2

In Upper Key Stage 2, the children explored Portsmouth as Artists. We were very lucky to have two amazing artists join us at Flying Bull. In 5B we welcomed Clarke Reynolds to share how braille can be used in art. The children created their own pieces with a very special message. In 6SK Seekers Create helped the children to create their own doodles and work together to complete a class 'Proud to be Pompey' piece. 5W and 6C went on an adventure to discover art in our community. 5W visited the Charles Dickens Centre to view My Dog Sighs and Fark artwork and 6C explored some of the larger pieces by My Dog Sighs by foot.
