Flying Bull

What a fantastic start!

The children in Year 5 and 6 have had a great start to the year. They have settled in well after their time off and are working hard to learn and develop themselves.

In Year 5, we have already got lots of highlights. In our English lessons, we have been writing some rap songs about the ancient Greek myths of 'Theseus and the Minotaur' and 'Pandora's Box'. In maths, we have been learning about place value in numbers up to 10 million and even completed a crazy crossword to test our skills. We've been loving our new class book called 'Who let the Gods out' and in our reading lessons we have been reading about the 'Diet Coke and Mentos' experiment which we will soon be doing in our science lessons! In PE, we have been playing 'throw tennis' as well as working on our netball skills and in art, we are just starting to learn how to draw people in different sporting poses like the ancient Greeks did.

In Year 6, we have seen great work ethics from the children and created lasting memories already. We have been reading our Phase book, Who Let The Gods Out and through this, the children unpicked different texts relating to dementia. The children were so mature in their discussions it was great to be a part of. In English, we have been building our skills to be able to write a description and improve our vocabulary, writing a great piece on the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

The children have been given home tasks relating to Ancient Greece. These can be posted to their year group padlet or to the year group email address.

Keep up the hard work Year 5 and 6, we are so proud of how you have started.
