Before the Easter holidays, the School Council visited the Lord Mayor’s Parlour. They had been invited by the Lord Mayor to tour the council chambers. They were looking forward to seeing the council chamber itself but unfortunately, it was being used for an important meeting. They did, however, get to see the Lord Mayor’s Parlour and the regalia used at civic functions.
The silver, especially the silver model of HMS Victory was stunning. The vellum charter from Richard the Lionheart was very interesting and the children were allowed to touch it. We were told that it will be 825 years old on the 3rd May, which is why the new mayor is installed on that day. They were shown the chain of office and told that it was worth £260,000!
After the tour, the children had a question and answer session with the Lord Mayor. They found out some interesting facts.
One memorable event was the clock chiming at 11am. As we were so close to the tower, it was extremely loud!
